Information theory is based on statistics and probabilities to measure distributions among variables to achieve the desired measurements. Information theory stems from Claude Shannon's original research document titled "A Mathematical Theory of Communication" where Shannon develops equations to calculate the amount of information that branches out from various sources of data. This theory assists in reducing the overall loss of information by utilizing these equations to find the most efficient form of communication between a source and the receiver.
